Nyaong Bakery, New Seoul
Jakarta, Indonesia
Overview
This design beautifully marries traditional East Asian architectural motifs with modern commercial functionality. It leverages natural textures and classic structural elements to create a warm, inviting, and culturally resonant exterior that stands out in a contemporary urban setting.
Key Design Elements
Material Harmony: The facade is defined by the rich, warm tones of the wooden paneling. This natural warmth is grounded by the dark, textured traditional roof tiles. The expansive clear glass windows on both floors provide a sleek, modern contrast, adding transparency and inviting natural light into the interior.
Architectural Detailing: The prominent, overhanging eaves on both levels are a strong nod to traditional craftsmanship (reminiscent of Korean Hanok or Japanese Machiya styles). The exposed wooden support brackets beneath the upper roofline add visual interest and authenticity to the heritage aesthetic.
Symmetrical Grounding: The ground floor features a structured, rhythmic layout with evenly spaced wooden pillars framing the large windows. This creates a sense of stability and elegance, ideal for a premium commercial space like a cafe or restaurant.
Branding & Signage Integration: The design successfully accommodates different branding styles. The ground floor utilizes minimalist, elegant gold “W” logos directly on the glass, maintaining a sophisticated and uncluttered look. The upper floor provides practical space for more traditional, highly visible rectangular signboards (like the “New Seoul” sign).
Minimalist Landscaping: The use of simple, potted tropical plants on the left side softens the transition between the paved concrete courtyard and the wooden facade without detracting from the architecture.
Atmosphere & Vibe The overall impression is nostalgic yet updated. It feels approachable and cozy due to the wood, yet premium and open because of the generous glass framing. It is highly versatile, functioning well for a boutique eatery on the ground floor and complementary services (like clinics or offices) above.
